Electrolysis hair removal provides an effective and permanent treatment solution for excess hair in undesirable areas of the body.
It offers an excellent alternative to Laser hair removal as is suitable for all hair colours, including those with grey/light coloured hairs.
Not only is it suitable for all skin types and hair colours, it is also ideally suited to treat smaller, sensitive areas of unwanted hair, such as on the upper lips, chin, ears, or in other awkward areas which are more difficult to treat with laser hair removal.
How does it work?
A small, fine probe is inserted into the base of each hair follicle. The probe delivers a small electrical current lasting around 5 seconds – the current destroys the growth centre of the hair with the heat from the electrical energy, preventing re-growth. The treated hair is then removed, usually with tweezers.
How Many Sessions Are Needed and How Long Will They Last?
Electrolysis treats each hair individually; therefore, multiple treatment sessions are required. Hair has 3 distinctive growth cycles – for successful electrolysis, hairs must be treated during the active growth stage. As hair follicles do not all grow at the same time, multiple treatment sessions are required for a satisfying result. Most individuals typically follow an intensive treatment program with no more than weekly intervals, until the treatment area is cleared of hairs. Treatment times vary depending on the individual and on the area being treated, and be anything from 10 minutes up to 1 hour.
For larger areas of excess hair, we often recommend laser hair removal, as this can treat several hairs at once.
Treatment Advice
Here at Flawless Skin Clinic we encourage all new clients to firstly book and in-depth consultation where the electrologist can establish a medical history and provide a treatment plan.
Exposure to the sun should be avoided before and following electrolysis hair removal treatment. It is advisable to limit the use of temporary hair removal techniques (plucking, waxing, shaving etc.) for up to 4 weeks prior to treatment. It is also important to inform your practitioner of any skin treatments you may have had recently.
Post Treatment
Following electrolysis, it is expected to experience some mild redness and irritation at the treatment site – this should subside within 24 – 48 hours. In some cases, a very small pin-prick sized scab may form where the hair was removed, this will heal within a few days following treatment.
