Acne
Acne is a common skin condition caused by the p.acnes Bacteria – naturally occurring on all skins but acne skins have a higher concentration of p.acnes which have buried into the follicle causing at first, comedones (blackheads and whiteheads) and then later more cystic pus-filled spots (pustules).
Acne occurs when pores become clogged with oil, dead skin cells, debris and bacteria. The skin pores are actually openings of hair follicles which contain the sebaceous glands. These produce an oily substance called sebum, acting as a skin lubricant. When the sebaceous glands overproduce oil along and pores get clogged, acne develops.
The main risk factors for acne are hormonal changes or imbalances, medication and diet. Acne can also be hereditary and many of those who develop the condition have a family history of acne.
Acne usually appears on the face and neck but can also be a nuisance on the back too.

Acne can be effectively treated with Intense Pulsed Light alone or in combination with other clinical treatments. Intense Pulsed Light treatments greatly reduce the number and severity of active lesions, lessening the inflammation and frequency of break-outs.
How does Intense Pulsed Light Work?
The light emitted from the Intense Pulsed Light system directly targets overactive sebaceous glands, greatly reducing the total number and severity of active lesions, and lessening the inflammation and occurrence of break-outs. The light stimulates the production of new collagen to improve skin texture, and can also reduce the appearance of red or brown areas of skin that are often associated with acne breakouts.
