Advanced Electrolysis
Starting from £80
Advanced electrolysis, or Advanced Cosmetic Procedures (ACP), is a highly precise, safe, and effective treatment that uses short-wave diathermy (high-frequency electrical current) to remove minor skin blemishes like skin tags, milia, blood spots, and thread veins. It works by cauterising the lesion’s blood supply, causing it to wither and disappear, often in one session.
Key Aspects of Advanced Electrolysis
- Blemishes Treated: Effective for skin tags, moles (if cleared by a doctor), telangiectasia (red veins), blood spots (Campbell de Morgan spots), milia, and sebaceous hyperplasia.
- Methodology: A very fine, sterile, single-use needle (probe) is used to deliver a tiny current to the target area.
- Mechanism: The electrical current generates heat, which either coagulates the protein in the cells (causing them to die and be shed) or dehydrates the blood vessel/lesion, leading to their immediate removal or gradual disappearance.
- Results & Downtime: Results are often instant for small skin tags. The treatment is usually permanent, though some lesions might require 1-3 sessions. There is minimal downtime, and it is considered a safe, cost-effective, and long-lasting solution.
- Procedure Safety: It is a non-invasive, specialised cosmetic procedure that requires high skill and expertise, especially when treating sensitive areas like the eyes, groin, or face.
Common Uses
- Skin Tags: Commonly removed from the neck, underarms, and areas of friction.
- Thread Veins: Small red veins on the face are treated by cauterising the vessel.
- Milia: Small white, hard bumps often found on the face.
- Sebaceous Hyperplasia: Enlarged, yellow-white, or skin-colored oil glands, typically on the face.
- Blood Spots: Small, bright red, raised dots (Campbell de Morgan spots).
- Warts: Can also be treated with this method.
It is important to note that while this is a cosmetic procedure, it is crucial to have any moles or suspicious skin lesions assessed by a healthcare professional to ensure they are not malignant before removal.
Hyfrecation is a minor skin treatment using high-frequency, low-voltage electricity to precisely destroy unwanted skin growths like warts, skin tags, or certain lesions, combining “high frequency” and “eradication”. A fine probe delivers electrical current, creating heat that desiccates (dries out) and removes the targeted tissue, leaving surrounding healthy skin largely untouched, with minimal downtime and scarring after numbing the area.
How it works
- Mechanism: A device (hyfrecator) delivers high-frequency electrical current through a fine needle or probe.
- Tissue destruction: The electrical resistance in the tissue generates heat, destroying the cells or causing a small spark to remove the lesion.
- Precision: It’s highly targeted, minimising damage to surrounding healthy skin.
What it treats
- Skin tags
- Warts (including genital warts)
- Molluscum contagiosum
- Fordyce spots
- Other benign skin lesions
Procedure & Recovery
- Anaesthesia: A local anaesthetic numbs the area first.
- Process: The provider uses the probe to carefully treat the lesion.
- Aftercare: A small wound forms, often scabbing, which requires typical aftercare, sometimes including antimicrobial sprays, to promote healing.
- Healing: Healing time varies but is usually a few weeks, with minimal scarring.
